The Gorgons
The Gorgons are three sisters known for being ancient Greek monsters. The most famous one is Medusa. They are a few of many offspring of Phorcys and Ceto, children of Pontus and Ge. I have already mentioned Medusa and the other two girls are named Stheno, and Euryale. Their most notable feature is that their hair is made out of serpents or snakes and the fact that if anyone were to make eye contact with them that person would be turned into stone. The only way to get to them is through seeking out and asking their sisters, the Graeae, or old women. They show up in the ancient Greek myth with the hero, Perseus. The Greek hero seeks them out, with the help of Athena and beheads Medusa. From her body springs her sons Chrysaor and Pegasus, the winged horse. She had been one of Poseidon's lovers and these creatures were their offspring. As the story goes Perseus eventually gave the Medusa's head to the Greek goddess Athena and she put it in her shield as it is often shown in artistic representations of Athena.
