Ancient Greek Gods
Ancient Greek religion is commonly called ancient Greek mythology and it is always a fun topic to talk about, but discussing the ancient Greek gods has to come with the understanding that there is no one correct version of the myths. The Greek gods and goddesses sometimes have overlapping functions, for example there are multiple sun gods and a few goddesses that deal with child birthing. What is known about the ancient Greek gods comes from different literary sources over a span of a few thousand years. These primary sources include Linear B Tablets from the Bronze Age, Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Hesiod's Theogony and Works and Days, Homeric Hymns, Herodotus, plays by Aeschylus, Euripides, and Sophocles just to name a few. I want to give you a basic overview of the different Greek gods and goddesses and the myths associated with them in the ancient world. I will give both the Greek and Roman name of the deity, Roman will be in parentheses. If you have any questions on anything I've written please go to my contact page and send me an email.
